I have to add that this book could have used some editing. If misspelled words and incorrect grammar will distract you from the story, then don’t bother to pick it up. If you can work your way through them (and it did take me a little effort), take a chance and enjoy the smiles you get as your reward.

This was a very good story. I loved the characters-crazy Aunt Grace was my favorite. The story moved along well and quickly. The main reason I only gave it three stars was the horrible spelling and grammar. Did the version not have an editor? I admit, I am a bit of a grammar snob, but some of these mistakes were awful. The use of "are" instead of "our" is a huge pet peeve of mine. Otherwise, the story was great!

This is a cute, quick read and less about romance as it is about learning things as you go, and realizing not everything is as you thought it would be.
Hallie is a strong woman who thinks she knows what she's going to do with her life, except things take a quick turn when she's sent to her home town to open a store.
The book is well done and shows that you should cherish family, and not paint yourself into a corner. Find that special thing you really want to do.

Carpe Bead'em is a sweet feel good book that I didn't want to end.
My Summary
Hillarie is a store manager for Gucci in Chicago. She loves her job, Gucci and Bo....... Bo has no clue she has any feelings for him. They run together that is all. Then her regional manager ships her off to Cincinnati to start the boutique in Saks.
As if life couldn't get much worse...... she has to face the past she disliked and a city she never intended to return to. Will the chance encounter with beading turn her life around?
How Distracted Did I Get?
Tonya delivers a great book again! Hillary goes through so much. Reminds me I don't miss the single life. But it's true to how things are in the dating world. Hillary is strong and sensitive the perfect blend for a heroine in a book! I literally laughed and cried! This is a perfect escape book. Just what I needed! No laundry done oh well, the kids can wear the same clothes 2 days in a row right? I give Carpe Bead'em...........

MY THOUGHTS

I loved it! It made me laugh out loud and shed a few tears. I love the way Hallie has to come face to face with her past to realize how much love she really had growing up. The courage to be who she is came from her aunt as did love of beauty and design. Really, motherhood is more than an act of birth and it's a lesson that Hallie has to learn. You'll love Hallie's sister-friends and wish they were yours. They cracked me up.

It's a fun summer read that leaves you feeling good after you put it down. I'll admit I shook my in disbelief when I got to the end. I was sure it would magically continue on with Hallie's story, but alas it didn't. Darn it.

Ms Kappes pulls some of the best elements of women's fiction and chick-lit and yes, there are quirky characters, lessons to be learned, lots of laughs, and few tears.

I would recommend Carpe Bead 'Em for a fun summer read and introduce you an excellent storyteller.

I'm not really sure that I'd classify this as a chick-lit though there are some of those elements there. This is more about the story of a woman who everyone drops everything for and all good things drop into her lap despite not seeming to really deserve them.

Hallie is the manager of a Gucci store in Chicago. The reader is supposed to feel bad and emphathize with her because her parents died when she was young and she was raised in poverty by her crazy aunt. She is suddenly assigned to work as the manager of a new Gucci boutique in her former hometown, Cincinnati, and resents it.

Her 3 best friends from Chicago come to visit her frequently and she seems to resent them internally, thinking that they have perfect lives when her parents are dead. Her friends come to her aid at literally a moments notice and it's confusing since it never seems like it'd be the same in the other direction.

Actually I had problems with the entire book. The characters were inconsistent in that the reader is told their motivations but their actions read differently. The romance aspect of the book was lackluster and the characters were all flat.
Aunt Grace calling 215 in the morning, did she just call to have someonte to talk to. Worse, to drive 5 hours, to meet a nice young man.. A promotion with three months opening a store in Cincinnat, and she had to take it.Hallie life at twenty eight a whirlwind, of what her Aunt Grace is doing.To taking a beading class and finds she has a knack for it. As for romance with Bo.that’s on hold, as is Chicago. Or something new here, could she start out on her own with a jewelry business. Thinking of all the changes this temporary job had opened and all these new possibilities. The plot is full of her quirky aunt, funny dialog, and enjoyable reading.
